President of John Dramani Mahama has delivered a keynote address at the opening of the 79th World Health Assembly currently underway in Geneva.
The event, organised by the World Health Organization, is taking place from May 18 to 23, 2026, and has brought together global health leaders, policymakers and experts to deliberate on major international health priorities.
A colorful cultural performance from Northern Ghana heralded President Mahama’s address at the opening ceremony.
Also representing Ghana at the summit are Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and the Ranking Member of the Health Committee in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye.
The World Health Assembly is the highest decision-making body of the WHO and meets annually in Geneva to shape global health policies and priorities.
