The FA Cup has delivered another fairytale, as Antoine Semenyo’s flicked winner in the FA Cup final gave the world's oldest cup competition another fairytale moment on May 16, 2026.
Eight years after playing for non-league Bath City, the 26-year-old scored the 72nd-minute goal that beat Chelsea and gave City a 16th trophy under Pep Guardiola and 20 in 10 years, adomonline.com reported May 17, 2026.
Semenyo joined from Bournemouth in January for £62.5m.
“It happened a couple of times in training – it happened perfectly today,” he told BBC Sport.
“Everything happened so fast… I had to improvise as quickly as I could. I have never competed for trophies like this before… As a kid, I have always wanted to play for the top teams – it took a long time to get there, but I am grateful.”
Former England keeper Paul Robinson called it “incredible”: “The timing of the run and the finish is incredible… That, for me, is one of the goals of the season.”
Guardiola told Semenyo to ‘create chaos’:
Milky’s _Just the Way You Are_ played as City lifted the trophy. Semenyo’s goal sealed a cup double after March’s Carabao Cup win over Arsenal, making City the first side to win 100% of games across both competitions. He won the player of the match.
He scored on debut in a 10-1 win over Exeter and has been involved in more FA Cup goals than any teammate this season. City beat Man United, Liverpool, and Tottenham to sign him.

Semenyo became the first Ghanaian to score in an FA Cup final, helping City recover from final defeats to Crystal Palace and Man United.
“The first thing he said to me when I came was, ‘Don’t change your game,” Semenyo said.
“He knows we control the game a lot, he still wants me to be me, still create a bit of chaos.”
Guehi enjoys back-to-back glory – ‘but not even one beer’:
City also signed Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace for £20m. Guehi is the fourth player to win with different teams in consecutive FA Cup finals after helping Palace beat City last season. He also played in Palace’s shock loss to Macclesfield as holders. New FA rules let him play for City.
“They’re both equally nice,” Guehi told TNT Sports.
“The one with Palace was my first trophy. This one, especially after the tough season, they’re both equally amazing.”
Guehi missed Palace’s celebrations last year after a fractured eye socket and may miss out again.
City sits two points behind Arsenal with two games left, starting at Bournemouth on Tuesday. “Not even one beer,” Guardiola said.

“Next Monday, after Aston Villa, we are going to celebrate it with the women’s team… with some parade in Manchester… No, no, no – not have time.”
The win was also memorable for departing captain Bernardo Silva and John Stones. With Guardiola’s future uncertain, he may end his decade at City the same way next Sunday vs Villa.
