When over 940,000 people from around the world logged on to cast their votes at the 2026 Webby Awards, they didn't crown Apple as their favorite, and they didn't pick Google either. They rather chose a Ghanaian group of three.

Kwaw Fletcher Frimpong, Dominic Damoah, and Philemon Hini have earned international acclaim after their AI governance platform, Human In The Loop, won the People's Voice Award for Best Responsible AI Implementation at the 30th Annual Webby Awards in New York City.

The win put them in the same winners' circle as some of the most powerful tech companies on the planet, including Apple, Netflix, Anthropic, Waymo, and Adobe.

Their platform stood out in a global field of more than 13,000 entries from 70 countries, securing the win through public voting, with over 940,000 participants casting more than 4.6 million votes worldwide.

In a category defined by corporate giants, the people chose Ghana.

Who are they?

Kwaw Fletcher Frimpong is the team lead, an AI security and governance specialist with expertise in building ethical AI frameworks and ensuring compliance across global markets.

He is the architect of the platform's governance philosophy, translating complex regulatory demands into practical tools that organisations can actually use.

Dominic Damoah is a tech entrepreneur and AI engineer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with deep technical expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

His Silicon Valley vantage point brings a global engineering perspective to a platform built with African ambition.

Philemon Hini is an AI engineer and digital forensics leader developing intelligent systems to transform audit, investigations, and risk management across the financial sector in Africa.

His work sits at the intersection of accountability and technology, precisely the problem Human In The Loop was built to solve.

The problem they fixed

Human In The Loop was developed to address one of the most urgent issues in modern artificial intelligence: ensuring that automated systems remain transparent, accountable, and subject to human oversight.

As AI becomes more widely used in sectors such as healthcare, finance, and public administration, concerns around bias, explainability, and accountability have grown.

The platform gives organisations, from hospitals to government agencies to financial institutions, the tools to keep humans meaningfully in control of AI-driven decisions, not just rubber-stamping outputs after the fact.

The win

Known as "The Internet's Highest Honour," the Webby Awards have been recognising excellence online since 1996, with winners selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.

The People's Voice category, however, belongs entirely to the public.

The win places the Ghanaian-founded platform among some of the most influential technology companies in the world, underscoring the growing role of African innovators in shaping global AI standards.
