Côte d’Ivoire produced a blistering finish to deny Ghana gold in the men’s 4x100m relay final at the African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, edging the hosts in a tightly contested race at the University of Ghana Stadium on Friday, May 15, 2026.
In front of a packed home crowd, Ghana’s quartet battled fiercely from the first baton exchange but ultimately had to settle for bronze after a dramatic sprint finish that saw three teams separated by fractions of a second.
Côte d’Ivoire stormed to gold in a winning time of 38.52 seconds, holding off strong pressure from regional rivals in the final stretch. Nigeria followed closely behind to claim silver in 38.70 seconds, just ahead of Ghana.
The host nation crossed the line in 38.74 seconds, finishing third after a race that kept spectators on their feet until the final metres.
