There is confusion between a family and their late brother’s girlfriend over money he left behind in his mobile money wallet.
The matter was discussed on Sompa Nkomo, a programme that focuses on domestic issues, on May 13, 2025.
The issue stems from the death of 47-year-old galamsey operator, Kwabena Abraham, who reportedly died after galamsey pit collapsed on him.
According to Akua Mansah from Antoa in the Ashanti Region, who is a sister of the late Kwabena Abraham, she narrated on the show that, “A week ago, I was informed that my younger brother, who was 47 years old, had died in a galamsey pit at Manso. Later, my sister brought my brother’s phone and SIM card.
“We saw a lady’s contact on the phone and called her to explain the situation. We later found out that she was the one who used her Ghana Card to register the SIM card, so we asked her to help us unlock the SIM.”
According to Akua Mansah, the woman later disclosed that she had withdrawn GH¢5,000 from Abraham’s mobile money account after assisting the family to reactivate the SIM card.
“She explained that my brother had promised to rent a room for her, which was why she took the money,” Akua alleged.

“She also told us that after withdrawing the GH¢5,000, she handed the remaining balance over to one of my brother’s friends.”
Akua Mansah further stated that tensions escalated after the family questioned the withdrawal.
“We argued over the issue and she later claimed that my brother owed some people, so the remaining money would be used to settle his debts,” she said.
“I asked her to hand over all my brother’s belongings to the family. She agreed, but when we later went to meet her, she neither answered our calls nor released the items.”
Meanwhile, Emelia Akunu, who identified herself as the said girlfriend of the late Abraham and resides at Ahenema Kokoben in the Ashanti Region, admitted that she withdrew the money from the deceased’s account.
According to her, “Abraham had promised to rent a place for me, which is why I took the money.
“There was a time he was arrested and he called all his family members, but none of them showed up. I was the one who bailed him out and signed his bail bond, which amounted to GH¢20,000. Up till now, there are still debts he owed that need to be settled.”
