Ghana’s emerging sprint talents continued their remarkable rise on the continental stage after the women’s 4x100m relay team secured bronze at the African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra on Friday, May 15, 2026.

Competing in front of an energetic home crowd at the University of Ghana Stadium, the Ghanaian quartet battled strongly against some of Africa’s top relay teams to finish third in the final with a time of 44.85 seconds.

Nigeria stormed to gold after crossing the line in 42.94 seconds, while Liberia claimed silver in 43.05 seconds.

Despite missing out on the top two positions, Ghana’s bronze medal performance represented another major milestone for the country’s new generation of female sprinters, many of whom only recently emerged onto the national scene through senior high school competitions.

Among the standout names in the Ghanaian setup were Aisha Jaffar and Gladys Boateng, two athletes who have quickly become exciting prospects in Ghana athletics after their impressive performances earlier this year.

The duo were part of the young relay group that gained national attention following their gold medal run at the African Continental Tour Meeting International in Abidjan, a performance that reportedly accelerated discussions about integrating them into Ghana’s senior relay team ahead of the championships.

Their rise from the Ashanti Super Zonals to a continental podium in Accra has now become one of the feel-good stories of the championships.

For Ghana, the bronze medal not only adds to the country’s tally but also offers hope for the future, with a youthful relay team already showing the potential to compete with some of Africa’s sprint powerhouses.
