Officials working at axle load weighing stations across Ghana have raised concerns over the activities of a group allegedly posing as operatives of Ghana’s National Security Secretariat and attacking personnel at designated checkpoints.
According to a report by adomonline.com on May 15, 2026, the group is said to be operating mainly around the Tema Beach Road and Motorway axle weighing stations, where they have allegedly harassed officials and disrupted operations.
The individuals reportedly conceal their identities by masking their faces and claim to be acting on behalf of the National Security Secretariat during their operations.
Officials say the actions of the group have created fear among staff stationed at the axle load centres, with some workers forced to flee for safety, resulting in interruptions to the smooth execution of their duties.
National Security warns axle weight station staff against extortion and corruption
The affected officers have called for investigations into the activities of groups allegedly using the name of the National Security Secretariat to engage in unlawful acts.
“With reported cases of such disturbing lawlessness involving groups purporting to be working on behalf of the National Security Secretariat, we respectfully call on authorities to crack the whip on miscreants dragging the name of the Secretariat into disrepute,” the officials appealed.
The axle load weighing stations play a critical role in monitoring overloaded vehicles and enforcing road safety regulations aimed at protecting highways and other state infrastructure.
Officials have therefore urged the relevant authorities to intervene urgently to restore confidence among workers and safeguard state revenue.
