Cabinet is expected to meet on Thursday, May 14, 2026, to consider recommendations submitted by the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC).

According to a report by myjoyonline.com, on May 14, 2026, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, made this known in an interview on JoyNews.

He disclosed that a draft paper has already been prepared following extensive consultations and legal review by the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Akurutinga Ayine and the president’s legal team.

Kwakye Ofosu said once the process had been completed, it has paved way for Cabinet to deliberate on the recommendations.

He noted that the meeting would allow Cabinet to determine government's position on the various recommendations submitted under the constitutional review exercise.

“Thursday, May 14, there will be a special Cabinet session chaired by the President himself to consider the draft position paper,” he said.

Kwakye Ofosu further explained that, unlike a commission of inquiry which requires the issuance of a white paper, the constitutional review process only requires government to produce a position paper outlining its stance on the proposals.

He indicated that once Cabinet approves the document, it will be made public to allow citizens to understand government’s position on the proposed constitutional reforms.

According to him, the next phase after Cabinet approval would involve implementation measures, including the establishment of an implementation committee.

He also disclosed that the recommendations would not be treated uniformly, explaining that some proposals may be accepted fully, others modified, while some could be rejected based on practicality and feasibility considerations.

Kwakye Ofosu said that although the special Cabinet session would focus primarily on the constitutional review report, other matters may also be discussed during the meeting.

The CRC, led by Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, presented its final report to President Mahama on December 22, 2025.

The committee's mandate was to review past recommendations and address challenges from previous constitutional review processes.

The report includes proposed amendments to Ghana’s 1992 Constitution aimed at strengthening governance, promoting citizen participation, and addressing key national issues.

Key recommendations include extending the presidential term from four to five years and ending the hybrid system that allows ministers to double as Members of Parliament.
