A Ghanaian woman has recounted how she and a friend allegedly had their drinks spiked by strangers during an outing at a popular restaurant and bar in Osu.
Her account comes on the back of the arrest of a 36-year-old businessman from East Legon in Accra over allegations of drugging, sexual assault, filming, and sharing intimate videos of women online without their consent.

The suspect was arrested by the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in a joint operation with the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI).
Narrating her ordeal in a Facebook post on May 13, 2026, the woman, identified on social media as Nkunim Abena Owusua, said the incident happened when she and four friends visited the popular nightlife spot.
According to her, one of her friends, Akosua, had gone to the bar to get ginger shots but took too long, prompting her to check on her.
“My friends and I (5 persons including me) went to the Republic in Osu. We were just chilling and vibing when 1 of them (Akosua) went to the bar to get ginger shots. I realized she was taking too long, so I went in there to fetch her,” she wrote.
She said that upon entering the bar area, she met her friend speaking with two unknown men.
“Upon arrival, I saw her engaging in a conversation with 2 strangers (males - 1 on her left and the other on her right). I walked in and said chalee let’s go … we took the shots right at the bar, and we went back to join our friends,” she narrated.
She added that shortly after returning to their table, her friend began to feel unwell.
The woman said her friend later contacted her boyfriend and was rushed to Nyaho Hospital that same night.
“A few minutes later, Akosua started feeling nauseous and threw up … we realized there was a tablet/pill in her puke,” she stated.
She further narrated that she also began behaving unusual without realising what was happening to her at the time, including acting extremely hyper and climbing tables at a different bar after they left Republic.
“Me on the other hand - a naturally hyper girl was so hyped. Friends around me thought - Oh Saa na ote3. We left the Republic when Akosua left, and I went to Mood Bar with 2 of my male friends. Apparently, I was dancing on tables and all. Loud and extremely bubbly (my colleague bartenders there assumed I was just being my bubbly self),” she continued.
She said she eventually got a ride home but had no memory of how she got there. She also said that she passed out the following morning after the incident.
“I got a ride home, and I didn’t remember how I got home. The next morning, a client had asked her driver to pick up her food orders from me. A call woke me up and as soon as I opened the door for the driver - I PASSED OUT,” she recounted.
She added that she was rushed to the Lapaz Community Hospital, Christian Village, where a doctor on duty administered immediate emergency treatment.
“The driver rushed me to LAPAZ COMMUNITY HOSPITAL- Christian Village. Fortunately, my Doctor was on duty that morning (Dr Pascal), who instructed that I’m his patient and had never been to the hospital in this condition, so they rushed me to the emergency ward,” she indicated.
According to her, medical tests confirmed she had been drugged and was placed on intensive treatment to flush the substances from her system, with 12 drips.

“That’s where it was confirmed I was drugged, and they started flushing my system (with) about 12 drips,” she concluded.
The woman further criticised people who often blame victims of drugging and sexual assault, stressing the dangers of such attitudes and how victims may not even be aware of what is happening to them at the time.
