Several persons affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been arrested or detained by security agencies since 2025.
The arrests, mostly linked to allegations of false publication, offensive conduct, and comments made in the media or on social media, have sparked public debate and condemnation from sections of the opposition party.
Below is a list of some of the arrests that have sparked public debate and political reactions:
Baba Amando
The Sunyani East Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party, Abubakar Yakubu, popularly known as Baba Amando, was arrested on Monday, April 13, 2026, as part of ongoing investigations into allegations of offensive conduct, false publication, and the circulation of statements deemed likely to incite fear and panic.
The High Court of Ghana, General Jurisdiction 2, granted him bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties and ordered him to report to the police every two weeks following his two-week remand. He is alleged to have posted some derogatory images of the President and some members of the ruling government.

Abronye DC
The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe, was rearrested on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, just weeks after he had earlier been granted bail in connection with allegations of misinformation and offensive public statements.
Abronye DC was first arrested on Monday, April 13, 2026, following allegations of offensive conduct, false publication, and statements considered likely to incite fear and panic among members of the public.
David Essandoh
The Agona West Constituency Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), David Essandoh, was arrested by armed men in police garb at Agona Swedru. He was reportedly arrested over a social media post which said: “dumsor is back”.
Fante Comedy
In August 2025, TikTok personality Prince Ofori, popularly known as Fante Comedy, was arrested with two others in connection with allegations of issuing a death threat and publishing false news linked to the August 6, 2026 helicopter crash.
He was granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with three sureties.
Alfred Kumi
In May 2025, Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) officials arrested the NPP supporter Alfred Kumi.
He was charged with making a false publication both on his X account and during a radio interview, in connection with a petition he submitted to the President.
His petition had called for the dissolution of the committee investigating the Chief Justice, alleging misconduct against committee members that he believed could compromise the integrity of the inquiry.
Gordon Asare Bediako
In April 2025, Wontumi TV journalist Gordon Asare Bediako was arrested and detained over allegations he made against the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.
Asare Bediako claimed that the Special Prosecutor demanded a private jet from the erstwhile Nana Akufo-Addo administration for his private use. He was granted bail set at five million Ghana cedis with sureties by the OSP.
Okatakyie Afrifa
In March 2025, media personality Okatakyie Afrifa was arrested abruptly by security operatives but released after the intervention of his lawyers.
Mohammed Amadou Zakou
In April 2025, Mohammed Amadou Zakou was reportedly picked up by Bureau of National Intelligence officials after a post he made on Facebook about the Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah’s arrest by NIB unlawful – NPP
Akyenkwa Nana
In August 2025, Wontumi TV presenter Akyenkwa Nana Kofi Asare was arrested after making on-air comments linking President John Dramani Mahama to the military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives.
Kofi Asare was picked up by police following the broadcast, which authorities said contained unsubstantiated allegations related to the August 6 crash.
Meanwhile, the NPP has condemned all these arrests.
