BOST Energies Limited Managing Director, Afetsi Awoonor, has affirmed the company’s readiness to support the implementation of the government’s 24-Hour Economy Policy, assuring stakeholders that BOST Energies has the infrastructure, systems, and operational capacity needed to support Ghana’s transition to a continuous 24-hour economy.

Afetsi Awoonor said that after more than three decades of service, BOST Energies remains a critical component of Ghana’s energy backbone, transporting petroleum products from coastal receipt points to inland demand centres safely, efficiently, and reliably.

He noted that the company’s existing depots, integrated value-chain connections, and logistics corridors provide a strong foundation for round-the-clock fuel distribution.

Afetsi Awoonor praised the vision behind President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy Policy, describing it as a bold initiative aimed at maximising productivity and unlocking Ghana’s economic potential.

He also commended the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, for the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening the energy sector to support the successful implementation of the policy.

The assurance was contained in a statement delivered by Afetsi Awoonor at the official launch of the 24-Hour Economy Pilot Programme for the petroleum downstream industry, held under the auspices of the National Petroleum Authority in Accra on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

“No nation can successfully operate a 24-hour economy without a reliable 24-hour energy backbone,” Afetsi Awoonor stated.

According to him, energy is the lifeblood of the 24-hour economy, which is why BOST Energies has invested strategically in storage, transmission, and logistics infrastructure to ensure that fuel remains available, accessible, and secure at all times.

Afetsi Awoonor also commended the Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority, Edudzi Kudzo Tameklo, stating that the initiative demonstrates that the regulator is not merely supervising the sector but is actively working to unlock the full potential of the 24-Hour Economy Programme.

He said the programme goes beyond extending working hours and is intended to unlock dormant national capacity and improve productivity through the more efficient use of existing infrastructure and assets.

Afetsi Awoonor emphasised that collaboration will be critical to the success of the programme in the downstream petroleum sector and praised the NPA for leading efforts to bring together relevant stakeholders.

To this end, he called for close cooperation among security agencies, customs authorities, regulators, and all other key stakeholders to ensure that extended-hour operations remain safe, coordinated, compliant, and efficient.

In his concluding remarks, Afetsi Awoonor stressed that no single institution can build a 24-hour economy alone.

“It must be a shared national effort as we seek to optimise our infrastructure, strengthen productivity, and compete more aggressively in the global economy,” he said.

He added that the petroleum downstream sector is the ideal starting point for the initiative because fuel remains the most essential enabler of economic activity.
