Several tenants in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have reportedly been left stranded after their landlord allegedly sold house without informing them or giving prior notice.

In a viral video shared by CDR Africa on social media on May 13, 2026, the distraught tenants are captured standing beside their personal items packed in the compound.

According to reports, the security officers were deployed to ensure that all occupants vacated the premises to make way for the new owner of the property.

Some affected tenants claimed they were taken by surprise and had no prior knowledge that the property had been sold.

Others alleged that they were given little to no time to secure alternative accommodation before being asked to leave.

Eyewitnesses said tensions escalated during the exercise as some tenants pleaded for more time to make arrangements, while others expressed frustration over the incident.

Meanwhile, under the country's tenancy laws, tenants are entitled to notice before eviction.

Landlords are required to give a minimum notice period of one month before asking a tenant to vacate.

This notice period is mandated by the Rent Act 1963 and is applicable to most rental situations.
