A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication team, Adomako Baafi, has questioned the government’s handling of corruption-related prosecutions while reacting to the new Legal Education Reform Act.

His comment comes after President John Dramani Mahama signed the reform bill into law hours ago, expanding access to professional legal education through accredited universities.

Speaking on the reforms, Adomako Baafi said the legal profession must remain tied to fairness and accountability within the justice system.

He accused the government of creating publicity around prosecutions without securing enough outcomes in court.

“What the Attorney General is doing this time is that he goes out there and gives publicity, saying he will try these people,” he said on GTV’s Breakfast Show monitored by MyNewsGh.

Adomako Baafi argued that past administrations under the NPP secured convictions through the courts and said the records were available.

“The record is there. How many people were incarcerated by the judiciary under Kufuor? How many people were also incarcerated under the NDC?” he asked.

He also criticised the use of nolle prosequi to discontinue cases involving government officials.

“When you came, several of your people were standing trial, and you exploited the nolle prosequi,” he claimed.
