Ghanaian hurdler Seidu Mammoudou Baba expressed frustration over scheduling issues after finishing second in his heat of the men’s 400m hurdles at the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

Despite securing qualification with a strong performance, the Ghanaian athlete revealed after the race that he was disappointed by confusion surrounding the event’s starting time.

According to Seidu, athletes were initially informed that the race would begin at 4 p.m. Ghana time, only for the event to start much earlier than expected.

“Ghana time they gave us 4 p.m., not knowing it was 2 p.m. that we were starting,” he said after the race.

The hurdler explained that he arrived at the stadium believing he still had enough time to prepare, only to realise the competition had already begun.

“It was my decision to come around, not knowing that they had already started,” he added.

Because of the mix-up, Seidu said he had little time to properly prepare physically before stepping onto the track.

“So no warm-up, nothing,” he lamented.

Despite the difficult circumstances, the Ghanaian still managed to finish second in his heat, showing resilience and determination in front of the home crowd at the University of Ghana Stadium.
