‘Talent is never Africa’s limitation’ – Kofi Adams ahead of 2026 African Athletics Championship

Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has praised Africa’s rich sporting talent and growing influence on the global stage during his address at the opening ceremony of the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championship in Accra.

Speaking before athletes, officials and dignitaries at the University of Ghana Stadium on Monday night, May 11, 2026, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, described the championships as more than just a competition for medals and records.

According to him, the continental event represents the resilience, excellence and limitless potential of African athletes.

“Over the next few days this track will produce moments of speed, endurance, discipline and brilliance,” Adams said during his speech.

The minister stressed that Africa has consistently produced world-class athletes capable of competing and excelling at the highest level of international sports.

“Africa continues to produce some of the finest athletic talents the world has ever seen. From Olympic podiums to World Championships finals, African athletes have consistently carried the hopes of millions and inspired generations beyond sports, he continued.

Adams further noted that the achievements of African athletes over the years prove the continent’s problem has never been a lack of talent.

“The continent has shown that talent is never our limitation,” he added.
