With Ghana preparing to host the 24th edition of the African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra from May 12 to 17, 2026, a new generation of sprint talents is rapidly forcing its way into the national spotlight.

Reports suggest that four senior high school girls who lit up the Ashanti Super Zonals earlier this year are set to be integrated into Ghana’s senior women’s 4x100m relay team ahead of the continental showpiece at the Legon Sports Stadium.

The quartet made headlines recently after delivering a sensational performance at the 2026 African Continental Tour Meeting International in Abidjan, where they stormed to gold in the women’s 4x100m relay.

The team featured Aisha Jaffar of T.I. Ahmadiyya SHS (T.I AMASS), Gladys Boateng of St. Louis SHS, Adelaide Fosuaa of T.I AMASS and Leticia Ohenewaa of St. Louis SHS.

Their explosive speed, clean baton exchanges and composure against experienced opposition have reportedly convinced Ghana’s athletics handlers to consider them for the senior national setup despite their young age.

If selected, the relay lineup could see “Odo Bronii, the nickname popularly associated with Aisha Jaffar, taking the opening leg.

Known for her powerful starts and aggressive acceleration out of the blocks, she is expected to set the tone early for the team.

Gladys Boateng, nicknamed “Gaza,” is tipped to run the second leg, often regarded as the home straight phase, where raw speed becomes crucial in maintaining momentum and position.

Adelaide Fosuaa is expected to handle the challenging third leg on the bend, a role that demands balance, speed and technical awareness during baton transitions at top pace.

Meanwhile, Leticia Ohenewaa is projected to anchor the relay team. Her finishing speed and calmness under pressure could make her the perfect athlete to bring Ghana home in front of an expectant crowd in Accra.

With the championships coming to Ghana for the first time in years, excitement is already building around the possibility of these teenage sensations sharing the track with some of Africa’s biggest athletics stars.
