Derrick Köhn delivered a composed second-half performance after coming off the bench to help Union Berlin secure an important 3-1 Bundesliga victory over Mainz 05.

Introduced in the 60th minute in place of Tom Rothe, Köhn made an immediate impact with his energy and efficiency on the left flank as Union Berlin protected their lead and controlled the closing stages of the contest.

The defender completed 13 of his 14 passes, including two successful passes in the final third, while also registering a key pass and a pass into the box.

Köhn was perfect with his crossing, completing his only attempted delivery, and won one of his three ground duels during his 30-minute outing.

Defensively, the 26-year-old contributed with a clearance and three recoveries, while also avoiding being dribbled past throughout the match. He additionally drew a foul and committed one foul of his own.

However, Köhn’s solid cameo ended on a frustrating note after he received a yellow card in the 80th minute. The booking was his fifth of the season, meaning he will be suspended for Union Berlin’s next Bundesliga fixture.

The victory sees Union Berlin move up to 12th place in the Bundesliga standings with 36 points, while Mainz 05 remain 10th with 37 points.
