In the previous 30 years, a total of 90 mining licenses had been issued. Get your head round that statistic. NPP had 8 years to put things right but instead poured gallons and gallons of petrol on the galamsey fire. Everyone with party connections, friends and family went ‘into mining’ and the result is the total unmitigated disaster we are witnessing today.
We all saw the hide and seek games with excavators seized and then mysteriously reappearing at another galamsey site, people arrested and then mysteriously released. Wontumi etc etc. It is very disappointing that some in the current NDC administration are also involved, but galamsey is now like a cancer out of control. Ghanaians involved in galamsey are digging the grave of the nation with their eyes wide open. We urgently need to change course before it is too late.
