Tanyigbe Senior High School has made the 15th African Arm-wrestling Championship proud after winning four medals at the continental competition held in Accra.

The school secured two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze medal in what was their maiden appearance at the championship, marking a major breakthrough for sports development in the Volta Region.

The success of the team forms part of an initiative by the Volta Fair Secretariat aimed at promoting sports development in the region through talent identification and athlete development.

The initiative gained momentum during the 7th Volta Fair in 2025, where a Sports Development Summit was organised under the leadership of the Volta Regional Minister.

The summit brought together sports stakeholders, youth development advocates, and regional leaders to discuss strategies for discovering and nurturing sporting talents across the region.

One of the major outcomes of the summit was the formation of a sports development committee made up of Adams Agbeko, Dela Gbeve, and Godson Asem.

As part of its initial interventions, the committee assembled a group of talented young girls from Tanyigbe SHS to represent the Volta Region at the African Arm-wrestling Championship in Accra.

Despite competing for the first time, the team impressed on the continental stage with a remarkable medal haul that highlighted the untapped sporting potential within the region.

Speaking to Joy sports, Gbeve described the achievement as a proud moment for both the school and the Volta Region.

“The recent achievements of the girls at the African Armwrestling Championship have once again highlighted the immense untapped potential within the region,” he said.

He added that the team’s performance demonstrates that with the right investment, support, and opportunities, young athletes from the region can compete successfully on the international stage.
