Black Stars forward, Antoine Semenyo has endured a third episode of racist abuse this season, intensifying concerns over persistent discrimination in football.
The latest incident occurred during Manchester City’s 3-3 draw against Everton in May 2026, where a 71-year-old man was arrested after reports of racist abuse directed at the forward. Manchester City condemned the act, while authorities continue investigations.
This follows an earlier case in August 2025 when Semenyo, then with Bournemouth, was racially abused by a spectator at Anfield during a match against Liverpool FC. A 47-year-old man was subsequently arrested and charged, with legal proceedings ongoing.
Between those incidents, the Ghana international also revealed he had been targeted online, sharing screenshots of racist messages on Instagram after matches. Posting “it’s started again,” he drew attention to the continued abuse players face beyond the stadium.
The repeated cases have prompted stronger calls for action. Semenyo has urged authorities to impose tougher punishments, including stadium bans and custodial sentences, to deter offenders.
The Premier League has condemned the abuse and reiterated its commitment to working with clubs, law enforcement and social media companies to address the issue.
For Semenyo, the pattern of incidents highlights the ongoing challenge black players face, despite growing efforts to combat racism in football.
