Mamprusi youth have raised concerns about road safety between Bawku and Bolgatanga, claiming that travel has become increasingly dangerous due to rising insecurity.
They alleged in a video seen by GhanaWeb on May 2, 2026, that movement along this route requires heightened caution due to security risks.
"None of us here can get to our home through the road safely without a security escort... Bandits are able to terrorise the road, saying that people who are from this tribe should not cross the road.
"Our security has failed to secure the road from Bawku to Bolga, unless the military will escort you", the spokesperson of the youth alleged.
Bawku Conflict: Four children killed so far, violence intensifies
This concern is particularly significant as it arises in the context of a long-standing conflict in Bawku, in the Upper East Region, primarily between the Kusasi and Mamprusi communities.
The conflict has resulted in hundreds of deaths, displacement, and ongoing insecurity.
Meanwhile, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has presented the final report and recommendations on the mediation of the Bawku conflict to President John Dramani Mahama.
The comprehensive report on the peace mediation process was prepared after separate meetings with factions in the Bawku conflict.
Both factions involved in the long-standing Bawku conflict, at the end of the mediation, openly declared that they are “one people” with “no reason to be at war, with each other.”
