The Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) has withdrawn a statement made at the Ho Regional Museum linking Prof Wazi Apoh to a claim that the Virgin Mary lived in the Volta Region.
In a retraction and apology notice, the Board said the comment was made by a security officer acting as a tour guide and was wrongly attributed to the academic.
GMMB stated that an investigation showed Prof. Wazi Apoh never made such a statement in any forum or publication.
“The claim attributed to him is unfounded and misleading,” the Board said.
It added that steps are being taken to remove the statement from all platforms. It also urged individuals and institutions that shared it to delete and retract it.
GMMB expressed regret over the incident.
“We extend our sincere and unreserved apologies to Prof Wazi Apoh,” the statement said.
