The Agogo Traditional Council has announced that the one-week observance for the late Omanhene of Agogo, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, will be held on June 4, 2026, in Agogo in the Asante Akyem Municipality.
The announcement follows news of the passing of the revered traditional leader, on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
In a statement released on May 1, 2026, and signed by Krontihene Nana Kwame Nti, the Council urged the public to take part in the customary rites to honour the late chief’s life and legacy.
In keeping with Asante tradition, the Queen Mother of Agogo, Nana Serwaa Afrakoma Kusi Oboadum, together with the Traditional Council, formally informed Otumfuo Osei Tutu II of the Omanhene’s passing at the Manhyia Palace on March 26, 2026.

Nana Akuoko Sarpong, who occupied the Ofori Krobon Stool, ruled for 51 years and was widely respected for blending traditional leadership with a strong commitment to development and modernisation in Agogoman.
Beyond his role as a traditional authority, he was also a notable figure in national public service.
He served as Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North between 1979 and 1981 on the ticket of the Popular Front Party and later held several high-profile positions, including Minister of Health, Minister of the Interior, Presidential Staffer for Chieftaincy Affairs, Chairman of the Commission on Culture, and Member of the Council of State.
A lawyer by profession, he was also known for championing education and national unity.
The Traditional Council extended condolences to his wife, Mrs Ellen Adwoa Ampofoa Sarpong, his children, and the people of Agogo.
