Dennis Miracles Aboagye, aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has hinted at revealing the identities of senior government officials allegedly involved in illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Aboagye claimed that individuals closely connected to the current administration are actively engaged in the illicit trade, raising fresh concerns about political complicity.
He described the situation as one of “widespread impunity,” pointing to systemic failures in enforcement.
Aboagye criticised the handling of excavators imported into the country, alleging that authorities have failed to properly account for them.
He dismissed assurances that the machines were being tracked, insisting instead that they had been returned to operators without oversight.
He further warned of dire environmental consequences, citing the destruction of river bodies across Ghana.

According to him, some rivers have stopped flowing entirely, while others are heavily polluted, threatening water security and livelihoods.
“In the next few days I will mention senior members, very top, top officials, who are close to this government and are actively operating in the galamsey space in this country. Our river bodies are dying; some are no longer flowing and others have virtually come to a standstill, simply because of this government’s actions,” citinewsroom.com quoted him to have said.
The NPP communicator accused the government of prioritising financial gains from galamsey over the long-term wellbeing of the nation.
