More details are emerging on the tragic road crash at the Third Ridge Junction along the Accra-Cape Coast Highway, which claimed the lives of a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Dr Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang, and his teaching assistant (TA), Peter Amoadu Asmah.
According to an eyewitness, the crash occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 28, 2026, when a heavily loaded tipper truck was forced into a critical manoeuvre after an oncoming vehicle, a Toyota Lexus pickup truck, veered into its lane while overtaking.
The witness indicated that the tipper truck attempted to avoid the pickup that had veered into its lane but lost control, causing it to overturn and fall onto a saloon car carrying the lecturer and TA.
He indicated that the tipper truck tore off the top part of the saloon car, including the head of the driver of the car, who was the lecturer.
“The big truck (tipper truck) was trying to avoid hitting a Lexus pickup truck. But after it managed to do that, because of the speed at which it was moving and the load it was carrying, it was forced to the right side of the road.
“Then it passed on top of the white car (the vehicle of the victims). It tore the top of the car and the head of the man who was driving the car with his son (the teaching assistant),” he narrated in the Twi dialect.
He added, “This happened in front of me. I was the one who removed the documents of the man — his licence and everything — and gave them to personnel of the fire service. The police were not at the scene at that time.”
Other videos from the scene of the incident showed the white saloon car with its top completely ripped off.
The tipper truck, which was being used to transport what looked like sand and gravel, could also be seen lying on the side of the road.
