For the past two weeks, a female member of the Wesley Cathedral Methodist Church in Sunyani has been trending in the media space after she openly labeled her church pastor and elders as “thieves” over issues relating to tithe payments.
She expressed concerns about what she described as an alleged church policy where members who do not pay tithes are reportedly denied financial support during funerals or personal emergencies, including the loss of immediate family members.
In her estimation such a stance by the church is unfair and inappropriate.
The woman, responding to the pastor’s earlier claim that anyone who does not pay tithe is an armed robber, argued that if that interpretation is followed, then the same description should also apply to the pastor and all the church elders.
The issue quickly gained traction sparking debates on the topic, with many people sharing their views on the matter.
Among those who added their voices to the issue are notable men of God in the country.
These pastors who criticised her include;
Prophet Kofi Oduro
General Overseer of Alabaster International Ministry, Prophet Kofi Oduro, took a swipe at the female member, stating that the amount of money the woman was complaining about was nothing to warrant such outrage.
“So, when you left your home to come and accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, didn’t you know that you would pay offering or tithe? Who in this room can pay a tithe of one million dollars?
“So, how much is the money that she is making a big deal out of? How much is your money?” he asked.
He further questioned whether the woman would have had the same courage to confront a fetish priest in the same manner she addressed the Methodist pastor.
“How is it possible for a church member to stand before her pastor and spew such nonsense? Can you stand before a fetish priest and say such nonsense?
“How many of you go empty-handed when you visit a fetish priest? Who has ever taken blood money with an empty hand?” he added.
Ajagurajah
Controversial leader of the Universal Spiritual Outreach (Ajagurajah Movement), Bishop Ajagurajah, also criticised the woman.
“A ladies’ wing member can raise her hand and speak trash to a pastor. Tell me, in which one-man church can she do those things there? If you want your opinion to be heard, must you call your pastor an armed robber? You have disgraced the pastor and dented his reputation,” he said.
Apostle Kingsley Agyenim Boateng
Apostle Kingsley Agyenim Boateng, founder and leader of Charismatic Face of God Church, also lambasted the woman.
“Somebody who cannot even explain a little bit of the Bible accused her bishops and leaders of being armed robbers, and people are saying the woman is bold. She is not bold; she is arrogant.
“Nobody will put his hands in your pocket to pay tithe. Why do we judge people about the same thing that we do?” he quizzed.
Rev Obofour
Rev Francis Antwi, popularly known as Rev Obofour or Prophet Asanteman, founder and leader of Anointed Palace Chapel (APC), also weighed in on the matter.
“A lady was holding a mic and talking to her pastor rudely and that is what we are talking about. That has become the topic and the nation is focusing on such nonsense,” he asserted.
