The Acting Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of GOIL PLC, Edward Abambire Bawa has disclosed that under his leadership the company has settled nearly 90% of the GH¢134 million debt owed to oil tanker distributors in Ghana.

He made the disclosure during an engagement with stakeholders from the South, South-East and Tema zones, covering areas from Accra to Oti, Accra to Kwahu, and parts of the Central Region, held on Monday, April 27, 2026, at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra.

According to him, the settlement reflects GOIL’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing relationship with transporters in the downstream petroleum sector.

He said the company is close to fully clearing the arrears, noting that only about GH¢12 million remains outstanding.

“We are confident the relationship between us and transport distributors will continue to thrive under his tenure as CEO,” he added.

Bawa stressed the importance of maintaining healthy financial relations with transporters, warning that delays in payments could significantly affect operations.

“Owing transporters will have very adverse effects on our operations,” he said.

He further noted that some transport distributors had previously been forced to lay off more than 90 percent of their staff due to financial challenges.

It would be recalled that the new management team led by Mr. Bawa has prioritised addressing operational inefficiencies and improving the fuel supply chain across the country.

Under his leadership, GOIL has strengthened its collaboration with the GOIL Transporters Union to enhance logistics and distribution efficiency.

The company also maintains partnerships with key transport stakeholders, including the State Transport Company (STC), to support fuel supply through dedicated facilities.

GOIL is currently upgrading and modernising more than 270 service stations nationwide to improve customer experience, while also expanding digital tools such as the GOCard to help drivers monitor fuel usage and costs.

With over 440 service stations across Ghana, GOIL continues to maintain the widest retail network in the country, ensuring nationwide fuel availability.

The company also says it has a dedicated safety and technical team focused on maintaining high operational standards and reducing risks in petroleum transportation.
