Arrests of persons in connection with the deadly shooting incident in Binduri in the Upper East Region has reportedly increased to 21.
The suspects are currently assisting security agencies with ongoing investigations following Monday, April 27, 2026, ambush on a military-escorted convoy.
“The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that 21 suspects have now been arrested in connection with the deadly attack on a military-escorted convoy in Binduri in the Upper East Region,” a report by myjoyonline.com on April 28, 2026, stated.
The arrests mark a significant increase from the earlier figure of 11, as authorities intensify efforts to apprehend all those involved in the attack.
A statement from the Department of Public Relations at Burma Camp indicated that the incident occurred on April 27, 2026, when a convoy transporting approximately 140 civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga was ambushed by unidentified gunmen in Binduri.
The attack resulted in the deaths of three civilians, while one other sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, military personnel escorting the convoy returned fire, killing seven of the attackers.
In a follow-up operation, security forces retrieved a G3 automatic rifle, two fully loaded magazines, and 176 rounds of ammunition from a suspect who reportedly sought refuge in a mosque while attempting to evade arrest.
The Ghana Armed Forces has cautioned the public against interfering with ongoing security operations, stressing that any attempts to obstruct personnel will not be tolerated.
“We must protect ourselves and the mandates assigned to us,” Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the GAF said.
She also extended condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Security operations in the area remain active as authorities continue efforts to restore calm and ensure the safety of residents.
