'Having sex in a car can land you in jail' - Lawyer warns

Legal practitioner Samuel Kissiedu has cautioned that individuals who engage in sexual activity inside a car parked in a public space could face legal consequences under Ghanaian law.

Speaking on Okay FM on April 27, 2026, he explained that such conduct may be treated as gross indecency because it is expected to occur in a private setting rather than in public view.

He noted that although a vehicle is private property, its location determines how the law views the situation.

Once it is parked along a public road or even near a residential area, it is considered to be in a public space. As a result, anyone caught engaging in sexual activity in such circumstances could be arrested and charged.

“Engaging in sexual activity in a car can land you in legal trouble. Although many people may not get caught, some later admit it and recount their experiences. Under the law, such acts may fall under gross indecency because they are expected to be done in private.

“Once a car is in a public space, whether on the road or even parked near someone’s residence, it is still considered a public setting. So if you are caught in such a situation, you could face consequences,” he explained.
