Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has called on government yo urgently fix the erratic power situation.

He warned that the situation is placing unnecessary pressure on students preparing for major national examinations.

In a Facebook post on Monday, April 27, 2026, he expressed frustration over the growing impact of the outages on households and students preparing for the West African Examinations Council examinations, including the WASSCE and BECE.

“We’re all experiencing it again, this on-and-off power situation and honestly, it’s becoming quite worrying,” he wrote.

According to him, many students who rely on evening hours to study are being severely affected by the unpredictable outages, describing the situation as a major source of stress and uncertainty at a crucial stage of their academic journey.

He described the period as “a very critical period,” where a stable environment could significantly influence academic performance

“At the very least, let’s ensure our students are given a fair and stable environment to prepare for and write their exams,” he stated.

He added a direct appeal to the government: “Please act now!”

Awuku noted that the effects of the outages extend beyond education, stressing that small businesses, young entrepreneurs, and informal sector workers are also struggling as unreliable power supply continues to disrupt productivity and income.

The recurring outages, commonly referred to by many Ghanaians as “dumsor,” have resurfaced in parts of the country, reviving memories of previous power crises that affected daily life, commerce, and education.

He therefore called on John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Energy and Green Transition to take urgent steps to restore stable electricity supply, stressing that thousands of students across the country deserve peace of mind as they prepare for their examinations.
