While the Golden stool is widely known as one of the most powerful symbols of royal authority in Asanteman, “Kɔtɔkɔdwa” represents a more personal expression of leadership.

Unlike the Golden Stool, which is believed to embody the collective unity of Asanteman, the “Kɔtɔkɔdwa” is the personal stool of the Asantehene. It represents his authority, presence and leadership.

It is used by the Asantehene particularly in personal and ceremonial settings.

According to a post shared by the Manhyia Palace on Monday, April 27, 2028, the “Kɔtɔkɔdwa” serves as the Asantehene’s own seat of authority, used in more personal and ceremonial contexts within traditional governance.

The post comes at a time, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is celebrating 27 years since his enstoolment.

As part of the anniversary, a grand commemorative event was held in Kumasi on the theme, “Advancing Peace and Sustainable Economic Development Through Royal Vision.”

During the event, he honoured several prominent individuals whose contributions have helped shaped governance, business, diplomacy, and traditional authority in the country.

Among those recognised were President John Dramani Mahama, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, alongside senior security and business leaders.
