Students of the Communication Studies Department at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Accra have launched a sensitisation campaign aimed at promoting responsible sexual lifestyles and safe digital behaviour among young people in Ghana.
The project, titled “Responsible Sexual Lifestyle among the Youth: #Love Smart, Share Smart: Protect Your Health, Protect Your Privacy,” is a dual-focus public health and digital safety initiative targeting persons between the ages of 10 and 35.
Designed by Level 400 Development Communication students, the campaign seeks to address two growing concerns affecting the youth population, the rising incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) caused by inadequate sexual health education and increasing cases of digital privacy violations, including the non-consensual sharing of intimate content through social media platforms.
The sensitisation exercise was held on April 24, 2026, at the UPSA campus, nearby hostels, the Madina Cluster of Schools and surrounding communities.
Speaking at the event, Development Communication lecturer and Project Lead, Sandra Yebaoh, stated, “Many young people in Ghana, including those as young as 10 years old, lack adequate knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about sexual health and digital privacy.
"This dual vulnerability leads to increased exposure to STIs, emotional distress, and privacy violations such as data misuse, image-based abuse, and online harassment."
She added that without effective behaviour change communication, the challenges would continue to escalate among a generation that is digitally connected but insufficiently informed.
The campaign’s main objective is to promote safe health practices and responsible online conduct among young people through strategic communication methods that educate, engage and inspire measurable behaviour change.
