Bright Simons reacts to 'Kubala King's' planned establishment of a new kingdom in Ghana

The Vice President of Policy Think Tank IMANI Africa, Bright Simons, has reacted to claims by the self-acclaimed king of the Kubala kingdom, Kofi Agyemang Offeh, to establish a new kingdom, following his deportation to Ghana.

According to Simons, he is disappointed in Offeh, also known as King Atehene, for failing to defend his honour in Scotland.

His comments come after Offeh landed in Accra on April 22, 2026, and declared his intention to continue building his self-styled kingdom in Ghana, with plans to establish a base in Sunyani.

Simons jokingly criticised how events unfolded in Scotland, where King Atehene illegally established the Kubala Kingdom, particularly the involvement of security agencies in what he described as a broader geopolitical matter linked to Offeh’s activities in Scotland.

“I am very disappointed in King Atehene of the expanding kingdom of Kubala. He assembled his nobles, marched on Scotland, and colonised the woods for the glory of Africa. Then some killjoys brought in the police. What is the business of the police in a geopolitical matter anyway?

“So, King Atehene was deported back to Ghana by po-faced Police. Clearly, His Majesty has been wronged,” he jokingly said.

Simons further argued that Offeh’s response after returning to Ghana does not match what he expects of a leader who faced such treatment abroad.

He said instead of focusing on matters linked to his experience in Scotland, Offeh appears to have turned his attention to establishing influence in Ghana.

“But instead of assembling forces to avenge his honour in Scotland, he has decided instead to come and compete with our kings and queens in Ghana for the small glory they are enjoying. This is not why Osagyefo suffered for this generation!” he added.

Offeh was deported from Scotland after immigration officials raised issues with his stay.

He had previously been removed from a wooded settlement near Jedburgh in an operation involving police and immigration officers.

Speaking in an interview with Kofi TV at the Accra International Airport on April 22, 2026, shortly after his arrival, Offeh insisted that recent events have not changed his plans.

He said his next focus is Sunyani, which he described as “Sun City” and “where the sunshine starts in Ghana,” adding that he intends to build his new kingdom there after the collapse of his Kubala camp in Scotland in 2025.

According to him, his authority is not tied to one location but follows him wherever he goes.

He maintained that his presence alone in the country is enough to establish dominion, adding that he has come to “take over Ghana” and insists that everyone, including politicians, chiefs and even the police, will bow to him.

“I have come to take over Ghana because I am the King of Kubala. Everywhere I land, I take dominion; where I establish my throne, so the time has come. Everyone will bow before me, whether chiefs, politicians or even the police are going to serve me,” he declared.

Kofi Offeh, who also refers to himself as King Atehene, and his partner were previously evicted from Scotland after authorities discovered irregularities in their immigration status.

Offeh and a woman identified as Kaura Taylor from Texas, who describes herself as a “handmaiden,” were arrested on suspicion of immigration offences and handcuffed.

Another member of the group, Jean Gasho, 43, originally from Zimbabwe and known within the group as Queen Nandi, left the scene separately in a pickup truck.
