Family confirms passing of former IGP Paul Tawiah Quaye

The families of the late Paul Tawiah Quaye have officially confirmed his passing, announcing his death with deep sorrow and respect.

In a statement released by the Nii Korle Kulo Family of Asere Dzorshie and the Nii Ayikwei Sewuhu Family of Ahumka Atukpai on Friday, April 24, 2026, the former Inspector General of Police died on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the 37 Military Hospital after a period of illness.

“It is with profound sorrow and deep respect that the Head and Elders of the Nii Korle Kulo Family of Asere Dzorshie, together with the Nii Ayikwei Sewuhu Family of Ahumka Atukpai, formally announce the passing of their beloved Inspector General of Police (Retired), Paul Tawiah Quaye,” the statement said.

Former IGP Paul Tawiah Quaye is dead

The family noted that he served Ghana with honour and distinction, highlighting his tenure as IGP from 2009 to 2013 under the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

They described his leadership in the Ghana Police Service as one marked by discipline, integrity, and commitment to national security.

“IGP (Retired) Paul Tawiah Quaye served the nation of Ghana with unyielding honour, integrity, and dedication. His lifelong commitment to service and humanity remains a cherished legacy,” the statement added.

The family also announced that funeral and burial arrangements are currently being finalised, with further details to be communicated in due course. They have meanwhile requested privacy, prayers, and support as they mourn their loss.

Quaye, born on May 6, 1953, is remembered as one of Ghana’s notable police leaders, having risen through the ranks to head the service at a critical period in the country’s security history.
