The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has raised serious concerns over a GH¢150,000 fuel expenditure made in a single day by the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region.
During a hearing on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Ranking Member Samuel Atta-Mills questioned the justification for the expenditure and the cash payment method used for the transaction.
Refund GH¢116k in illegal staff payments within 30 days - PAC to Sunyani West Assembly
He described the expenditure as excessive, especially at a time when the Assembly was reportedly struggling to honour its cheques.
“In one day, you paid over GH¢150,000 for fuel for drip machines, drip projects. Do you know how many Land Cruisers you can fill with GH¢150,000? Things are not adding up,” he stated.
He subsequently directed the Auditor-General’s Department to investigate the transaction, citing possible financial irregularities.
“Auditors, I think this is a clue for you guys to look at it. GH¢150,000 in one day, November 4, 2024, all for fuel. They paid to Total Energies. And December 31, which was a half-day, that was when you withdrew the GH¢200,000,” he added.
PAC Chairperson Abena Osei-Asare also questioned why such a large amount was disbursed in cash for fuel while the Assembly reportedly defaulted on cheque payments.
“The GH¢150,000 was paid in cash. For an Assembly that struggles to honour its cheques, you disbursed GH¢150,000 in cash to buy fuel in a day,” she noted.
