Former Manchester City defender, Micah Richards has expressed disappointment in Chelsea for sacking Liam Rosenior as head coach.

According to him, the former Strasbourg coach had only taken over a few months ago and should have been given adequate time to work with the team and get the best out of the players.

He stated that Rosenior is a fantastic coach, known for managing teams effectively in terms of transitions and squad rotation, and deserved more time to fix things.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Richards disagreed with the decision to dismiss Rosenior, arguing that the coach had insight into the club’s project and could have contributed in the long run.

“When we were hearing all the noise throughout the club, when they signed Liam Rosenior, pundits and people were questioning whether moving from Strasbourg to Chelsea was too big a step. But he knows the league, he’s played here, and he understands the wider project.

“As a coach, I think he’s fantastic in terms of transitions and rotations. There are aspects of his game where I thought, actually, I can see it working. But at the end of the day, it was Chelsea Football Club, and the gap was too big. What disappoints me most is that, after all the briefings and expectations, they didn’t stick with him in his first season,” Richards said.

Rosenior was sacked by Chelsea on April 22, 2026, following backlash after his side lost 3-0 to Brighton and Hove Albion, extending their losing streak to five games without scoring a goal.

Reports suggest he had also lost the dressing room, which contributed to the decision.
