Muslim cleric, Sheikh Illyas Abdul Rahman, has narrated a chilling account of how a Muslim footballer based in Turkey was allegedly buried alive after returning to Ghana.

In an interview on Okay FM, Sheikh Illyas Abdul Rahman explained that the Turkey-based footballer had been living with an illness for a long time, which could trigger a coma lasting about a week.

According to the cleric, when the player returned to Ghana, people were unaware of his condition. So when the illness struck and he slipped into a coma, it was mistaken for death.

He noted that due to the practice of prompt burial among Muslims, he was buried immediately without thorough checks to confirm if he had truly died.

“I know a footballer who played in Turkey and has been living with an illness for a long time. Sometimes he goes into a coma that can last about a week. When he wakes up, we usually give him tea and he regains his strength.

“But when he came to Ghana, no one knew about his condition. So when he went into a coma, people assumed he had passed and he was buried immediately,” he shared.

Sheikh Illyas Abdul Rahman also recounted another incident involving an 11-year-old boy who was being transported from a Zongo community for burial.

According to him, when the ambulance got to Circle and was caught in traffic, the boy suddenly came back to life. He noted that the boy is still alive today and is now about 36 years old.

The cleric further clarified that Islam does not mandate immediate burial upon death without proper confirmation.

He explained that once a person has been medically declared dead by professionals, burial can proceed without delay, even if some relatives are not present.
