Ghana's economy has bounced back - Mahama tells French President

President John Dramani Mahama has declared that Ghana’s economy, which suffered a downturn in recent years, has regained stability under his administration.

According to him, the economy is performing strongly, and investor confidence has been restored.

Speaking during his official visit to French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, President Mahama said; “The economy has bounced back and is doing very well, with very positive indicators.”

He cited low inflation, improved fiscal management, and renewed investor confidence as key signs of a robust recovery.

President Mahama’s meeting with President Macron focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing Ghana’s development agenda.

Discussions covered major infrastructure projects such as the Accra-Kumasi Expressway, continued collaboration with the French Development Agency, and initiatives to boost food security through year-round farming.

President Mahama also noted the strong ties between Ghana and France, describing the relationship as one rooted in shared democratic values and mutual respect.

He noted that both countries are aligned in addressing the impact of global conflicts on other regions and remain committed to maintaining stability in West Africa.

The President expressed appreciation to France and China for their support during Ghana’s debt restructuring process.
