With the war going on in the Middle East, Ghanaians should expect an increase in the price of Petroleum products. Yes, the whole World is facing the brunt. It is nice Grandfather Trump and Brother Benjamin Netanyahu have been able to bully Iran to open the Strait that was closed.
I expected prices in fuel to spiral up. In some parts of California, a Gallon of Petrol costs $7.00 USD. The problem with Ghana is that once there is an increase in the Price of fuel, it affects everything and the Price increase does not come down again.
Ghana also has the problem of so many Governments, Ministries, and Departments are issued free fuel. Some Drivers end up to siphon off the free issued fuel and sell them. It has been like that since the time of Nkrumah. Siphoning of issued Fuel became just outrageous during the early June 4th and the PNDC eras of Efo Julor John Rawlings. The Petroleum product scarcity was so catastrophic in the country. I have walked then from Suhum to Koforidua, and Nsawam to Accra. Some people walked from Accra to Tema. These were some of the horrible situations that Ghanaians went through then. Those days, it was just a nuisance to see PDC and appendages of PNDC Governments supervising the sale of Petroleum products and Petrol Filling Stations. And only God knows how much was smuggled into containers and sold secretly to Drivers in the bush. Hahahaha. And the PDC/CDR people who did that in connivance with the crooked Police, Military Personnel who were assigned to produce security. Some Police Stations and Barracks became the places where Petroleum products were sold.
I sincerely request from the Government not to increase the cost of Petroleum products because the Straits that was closed by Iran has been opened.
The Government should try to make the sale of Petroleum products be at the same price as our neighboring countries to prevent smuggling them to our neighboring countries. Ghana cannot subsidize the price of Petroleum products for our neighbors. Ghana is not that much rich to do that.

I am not politically affiliated to any of the parties here in Ghana and I want to say that this is a caring government - a president who listens to the frustrations of his citizens. The cancellation of coupon to technocrats and government officials is way overdue. We keep comparing our systems to the Asian and western countries and that's not done there. We give those technocrats and political appointees all those perks in hope of averting corruption but we all know what they do. So Mr president, cancel all of those perks, per diems, allowances etc.

Time changes and the increase or decrease or even giving some products that are essential for free should be allowed depending on the situation at hand but should not be permanent. Ghana is not a Socialist State but a developing Capitalist country.
I support that Education, Health, Water, Electricity and some very important and essential services should be very much subsidized but not free. I very much like the Free Education introduced by the NPP Government but I would have preferred it being subsidized and not free. Generally speaking, people don’t appreciate and take good care of things that are given for free. We don’t take care of things that are free. I have lived at the time when things were free in Ghana, and when we paid for things, sometimes at subsidized rates. Things are taken care of when we are made to pay for them, or part of them. And I know I am right.

It is unfortunate that such subsidies are sometimes abused. I have seen some Medical Personnel and even Police Officers siphoning Petrol from their vehicles to sell. It was very bad and shameful.

According to Felix, the directive is that, the Minister for Transport maintains LOWER TRANSPORT FARES on Metro Mass Buses than what private operators charge.
So, clearly, government hasn't decided to control the fares charged by private operators as suggested by the article.
