The Volta Regional House of Chiefs has criticised the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over its handling of the case involving the region's Council of State representative, Dr Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple.
In a statement dated April 7, 2026, and signed by the President, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, the House expressed “deep concern” about EOCO’s conduct, particularly following a High Court ruling which found that the agency acted without lawful mandate and breached constitutional principles of fairness.
According to the Chiefs, allegations that EOCO continues to pursue the matter despite the court’s decision raise serious questions about respect for judicial authority.
"The decision of the Court is clear and unequivocal. The House has also taken note of Dr Kwamigah-Atokple’s allegation that, notwithstanding the ruling of the Court, EOCO has continued to pursue actions which openly challenge and defy the authority of the Court by maintaining its investigation and publicly questioning the judgment," the statement said.

"The Volta Regional House of Chiefs wishes to state, without equivocation, that such conduct is unacceptable in a constitutional democracy governed by the rule of law," it added.
The Chiefs further indicated that if EOCO was dissatisfied with the court’s decision, the appropriate and lawful step would have been to pursue an appeal through the judicial process.
“The decisions of our courts must be respected under all circumstances. No institution or public office, regardless of its mandate, is above the law,” the statement emphasized.
The Chiefs urged EOCO to exercise restraint and demonstrate full respect for judicial authority and the rule of law.
"The apparent disregard for judicial authority represents a troubling affront to administrative justice and to the constitutional order of the Republic. The House calls on EOCO to act with restraint and to demonstrate full respect for the authority of the courts and the principles that govern the rule of law," it concluded.
