President John Dramani Mahama has nominated five professionals to serve on Ghana’s Fiscal Council, in a move aimed at strengthening oversight and discipline in public finances.

In a press release dated April 8, 2026, the nominations were made under the Public Financial Management Act.

“Pursuant to section 11D of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), as amended by the Public Financial Management (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1136), President John Dramani Mahama has nominated the following persons for appointment as members of the Fiscal Council,” the statement said.

The members include Dr Emmanuel Oteng Kumah as chairperson, alongside Prof Patrick Opoku Asuming, Leslie Dwight Mensah, J Kweku Bedu Addo, and Dr Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah.

Ghana set to establish Independent Fiscal Council for post-IMF oversight

The nominees bring experience from academia, policy, research, and financial governance.

Their combined expertise is expected to support the Council’s role in promoting fiscal responsibility and guiding government decision making.

The Fiscal Council is mandated to provide independent oversight of the country’s fiscal policy.

It plays a key role in ensuring prudent management of public funds and strengthening transparency and accountability in government spending.
