The Minority Caucus in Parliament has assured cocoa farmers that their concerns will not go unheard, pledging to fight for better conditions and fair rewards for their hard work.

During a visit to the Ahafo Region, the group met with traditional leaders, including Osahene Kwaku Atekyi II and Nana Osei Kofi Abre II, to hear firsthand the challenges farmers are facing.

Leading the delegation was the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, who emphasised that the caucus is determined to represent cocoa farmers’ interests strongly in Parliament, while holding the government accountable.

He explained that the visit was part of a broader effort to connect directly with farmers, listen to their concerns, and better understand the economic pressures affecting their daily lives.

According to him, engaging traditional authorities is also crucial, as they play an important role in the cocoa sector.

Annoh-Dompreh noted that cocoa remains one of Ghana’s most important economic pillars and stressed that farmers deserve to benefit fairly from their labour.

“Our visits are driven by growing concerns of cocoa farmers, nationwide, in connection with the recent reduction in cocoa producer price and delays in payments of cocoa farmers,” he said.

At Kukuom, Osahene Atekyi, one of the leaders of the cocoa farmers, highlighted the impact of delayed payments on farming communities, explaining that many families are struggling to cope as a result.

He called on the government to speed up payments to farmers, stressing that their welfare must be prioritised to sustain cocoa production and maintain the quality of Ghana’s cocoa.
