President Mahama 'mobbed' as he arrives in Lyon for high-level talks

President John Dramani Mahama arrived in Paris, the capital of France, on Monday, April 6, 2026, following the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron for high-level talks.

Mahama would be co-chairing the high-level segment of the One Health Summit alongside French President Emmanuel Macron.

The summit brings together world leaders, health ministers, and global health experts to deliberate on critical issues, including global health systems, sustainable food production, and coordinated responses to emerging health challenges.

Visuals of the president's arrival showed him being greeted by a huge crowd of members of the Ghanaian community in Lyon.

The Ghanaian community could be seen waving the flag of Ghana as they cheered on the president.

The president could be seen waving and giggling as he waved and interacted with some members of the crowd.

One young lady particularly had the time of her life as the President could be seen having a chat with her and hugging her after their conversation.

President John Dramani Mahama would have bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron as part of his official visit to France.

This was announced in a statement issued by the Presidency and signed by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on April 6, 2026, stating that the visit was at the invitation of President Macron.

The statement indicated that the talks will take place at the Elysée Palace in Paris after President Mahama attends the 2026 One Health Summit in Lyon.

"President John Dramani Mahama will undertake an official visit to France on Monday, 6 April 2026, at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron.

"During the visit, President Mahama will attend the 2026 One Health Summit in Lyon, after which he will hold bilateral talks with President Macron at the Elysée Palace in Paris," portions of the statement read.

It further noted that the discussions between the two leaders will focus on strengthening ties between Ghana and France.

Detailing the areas of cooperation, the statement explained that it will focus on health, education, trade, investment, and regional security.
