President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, assented to five bills into law.

Out of the five, two are business-related; the Growth and Sustainability Levy (Amendment) Act and the Ghana Deposit Protection (Amendment) Act.

Speaking on the Growth and Sustainability Levy Amendment, President Mahama explained that the levy paid by mining companies has been revised.

The amendment seeks to create a fairer fiscal framework that maximises Ghana’s benefits from its natural resource wealth while maintaining a competitive investment environment for mining firms.

“As you’re aware, the Act was amended to increase it from 1% to 3%. This amendment reduces it again to 1%, because of the introduction of the sliding scale of royalties,” he said.

The Ghana Deposit Protection (Amendment) Act modifies the original legislation, which was designed to guarantee deposits held in commercial banks and financial institutions.

The amendment expands protection to include mobile money wallets and other digital platforms, ensuring a broader range of financial assets is secured.

The other enactments include the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2026; the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences Act, 2026; and the Education Regulatory Bodies (Amendment) Act, 2026.
