The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has said that the government is working to address the salary arrears of 2024 teachers.

Speaking to a delegation of newly recruited teachers from the 2024 cohort on Friday, March 27, 2026, regarding their unpaid salary arrears, he acknowledged their concerns and commended them for their dedication to service despite the challenges.

The engagement followed a petition submitted by the teachers to the minister, outlining the challenges they continue to face due to delays in payment. Upon reviewing the petition, the minister invited the group for a direct interaction to better understand their concerns and provide updates on ongoing efforts to resolve the issue.

After receiving them, the minister emphasised the importance of constructive engagement, noting that dialogue remains the most effective approach in addressing such concerns, and encouraged them to continue engaging the appropriate authorities through the right channels.

He further reiterated that the concerns raised by the teachers are legitimate and fall within their constitutional rights, stating that the government recognises their sacrifices and remains appreciative of their contribution to the education sector.

He also assured them that steps are actively being taken to ensure that all outstanding arrears are duly paid.

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, who was present at the meeting, indicated that the Service had earlier engaged the teachers on the matter and provided updates on steps being taken to address the arrears.

He noted that the meeting with the minister offered an additional opportunity to further brief them and reinforce ongoing efforts.

The minister subsequently allowed the teachers to reiterate their concerns, during which they appealed for expedited action to ease the financial burden many of them continue to face.

The engagement ended on a reassuring note, with renewed commitment from the government to address the concerns raised, as efforts continue to streamline processes toward the payment of arrears.
