The Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has described the passage of the Legal Education Reform Bill as a landmark achievement.

Reacting to the development in a post on his X page on March 26, 2026, he stated that the Bill is the result of nearly a decade of sustained advocacy, which was later adopted by the National Democratic Congress as a campaign promise.

"This is a product of nearly 10 years of persistent and consistent advocacy on my part, which my party bought into and made it a major campaign promise. When I began, the naysayers said it wasn’t possible," he wrote.

Dafeamekpor stated that the Bill will expand access to professional legal education in the country.

"The reform is pervasive. The Bar too has been reformed such that we no longer have a single group of professional lawyers. Today, we have the Ghana Law Society with huge membership at the Bar.

"I’m a very happy man today. I wish all prospective law students the best of luck. Reform is always good. This is a new dawn for our legal profession in Ghana," he added.

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, presented the Bill to the House on October 24, 2025.

It seeks to establish the Council for Legal Education and Training to regulate professional legal education in Ghana and also provide the curriculum and standards for legal education.
