Madina Zongo made history on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, after becoming the only community to host and win the prestigious Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup.

Madina emerged champions of the 11th edition of the annual Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup after a dramatic and closely contested final against Ashaiman.

In a thrilling encounter witnessed by dignitaries from various Zongo communities, Madina started brightly and took an early lead, much to the delight of their passionate home supporters.

However, Ashaiman, the most successful team in the tournament’s history — responded strongly, finding an equaliser to keep their hopes alive of securing a record fourth title.

With neither side able to find a winner in regulation time, the match was ultimately decided by a tense and extended penalty shootout. Madina held their nerve to claim victory, sealing their second title in the competition.

The final was further highlighted by the presence of community leaders and traditional chiefs from both sides, who added colour to the occasion with their rich and elegant royal attire.

With this triumph, Madina joins Kasoa and Mamobi as teams that have won the tournament twice. Ashaiman, despite back-to-back final defeats, remain the only side to have lifted the trophy three times.

Both finalists were rewarded with medals, cash prizes, and products from sponsors, NASCO Electronics. Individual awards were also presented, with the best goalkeeper, top scorer, and player of the tournament each receiving television sets and trophies.

Established in 2015 and named in honour of the National Chief Imam, the Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup is an annual competition aimed at promoting peace, unity, and discipline among youth in Zongo communities after Ramadan.
