Gedeon Mawulolo Agbeyome, a Togolese permanent resident of the United States (US) with ties to Ghana, has reportedly pleaded guilty to money laundering and stealing millions of dollars from Americans.
According to a post shared by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement on X on March 25, 2026, the convict, using stolen identities, managed to steal millions from unsuspecting individuals and agencies, including those of the US government.
ICE indicated that the Togolese man was arrested after a federal warrant was issued for him, and he pleaded guilty after being arraigned before a court.
He was sentenced to a jail term of five years and was also ordered to pay nearly $6 million as restitution.
“A fraudster from Togo with a lengthy criminal history picked up five more years in prison and was ordered to pay $5.7M in restitution and preliminary forfeiture after pleading guilty March 20 to conspiracy to commit money laundering and aggravated identity theft.
“Gedeon Mawulolo Agbeyome, a lawful permanent resident, used stolen identities to open shell businesses and bank accounts that received nearly $3 million in fraudulent funds, including money from a U.S. government environmental trust fund, in an international business email fraud scheme,” parts of the post read.
ICE also indicated that Mawulolo Agbeyome has already been convicted of several offences in the past.
“He also has an existing final removal order and a rap sheet that includes convictions and arrests for aggravated ID theft, prostitution, counterfeit credit cards, and commercial bribery/counterfeiting/forgery.”
