Jonathan A Syme, son of the late former Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Daniel Awenyue Syme, has shared a terrifying account of survival following a "scary" flight experience marked by extreme turbulence less than a week after his father’s passing.

Jonathan, who lost his father on March 16, 2026, recounted that he had traveled to Tamale and on his return flight to Accra over the weekend, the aircraft nearly encountered turbulence mid-air.

Sharing the experience in a post on his Facebook page on March 22, 2026, he described it as a scary encounter that was so chaotic that he shouted the name of Jesus hoping to be saved by the Messiah from the near tragedy.

However, after the plane landed safely, some passengers mocked him over his reaction.

Expressing his grief, Jonathan said he was saddened by the thought that if he had died in the crash, he would not have been able to lay his father to rest.

In a self-recorded video after the incident shared on his X account on March 22, 2026, he narrated, “My father died on Monday and I nearly died in a plane on the Accra–Tamale route.

“If you are seeing me today, I survived. You all know my father died on Monday. I went to Tamale and just returned to Accra today.

“The plane we entered, it was shaking and it was very scary. I shouted Jesus! Who will do my father’s funeral if I die? The way I shouted, now everybody was laughing at me when we landed. Everybody was thrown in a state of panic; you could hear Jesus, Jesus.

“Next time I go to Tamale, I will drive. If I mention the name of the plane, it will be like I want to spoil their business but me I am not entering that plane again. If you know anyone who arrived this evening, ask them they will confirm we nearly died,” he added.
