He had confronted Acheampong’s Unigov ruse and the dictatorial early Rawlings years. I think his electoral loses to Mills and especially Mahama changed him. He became more self centered and autocratic. He jettisoned his democratic credentials and embraced tribal and parochial interests. He watched as the nation spiraled into debt and despondency. At a time, it seemed like he had given up on Ghana. Religious honors at this point in his life are soothing to the soul. But the disappointment that such an otherwise honorable man represents is sad.
